STUDENT CASE STUDY

A recruiter came to her: how Palak landed a $75K OTE Telus role without applying

In short

Palak studied supply chain and was working in a warehouse, applying to jobs in India and Canada and getting rejections. Her resume and LinkedIn profile became the turning point: a recruiter approached her on LinkedIn, and she did not have to apply. She reports an Account Specialist role at Telus, a tech sales position much like an SDR or business development role, at $75K OTE.

The interview

Where Palak started

Palak studied supply chain and was working in a warehouse at the time. She thought it was a good company and she would grow there, but she was not enjoying her time. She knew she had to change, just not where.

She applied to a lot of jobs, in India and in Canada. Looking back at her email history, she says, it is rejections, rejections, rejections.

Her interview skills were not the problem. What she lacked was the chance to use them.

What changed

Her resume became very good, and because of it her LinkedIn profile became impressive too. She kept opening her own profile to judge it as a stranger would.

She is not a very social person, and approaching people was hard. She still followed the advice to message five or ten people every day, even when people were not replying and she felt she could not keep going.

Her advice to others is about discipline, not motivation: motivation runs out when it feels like nothing is happening, and you have to keep doing the work anyway.

Where the coaching came in

What helped most, she says, was feeling that she was not alone. On the calls and in the community app she could see that everyone was struggling and wanted help, and that gave her a lot of motivation.

I was not under confident about my interview skills for sure. I knew that I can communicate properly.
