You don't need PR to work for the government in Canada

Let's break it down:

At the federal level, hiring preference under the Public Service Employment Act goes to citizens and permanent residents first.

If you are on work permit, you can technically apply, but you'll usually lose to any qualified PR or citizen who applies to the same posting.

A lot of people know this and they stop.

But what they don't know is that this Act does not apply to municipal (city) level and auxiliary/temporary roles at the provincial level.

Many of these postings only require legal work authorization
