How to answer "Tell me about yourself" with the WWW framework

In short

  • The hiring manager doesn't care where you grew up. They care about ONE thing: Can you do this job?
  • Answer with the WWW Framework. W #1: What do you do? W #2: What results have you gotten? W #3: What's in it for them?
  • Make it about THEM. Not about your life story.
  • Say it out loud before the interview: one question a day, 10 minutes a day, and record yourself so you hear what sounds powerful and what feels off.

“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times.”
- G. Michael Hopf

If you have an interview coming up, it's guaranteed you will be asked this interview question, “Tell me about yourself.”

But it surprises me that so many people still don't prepare this question or don't use the right framework to answer it.

What most people say

Here's what they usually say:

"So, I was born in India. I did my Bachelor's there in Computer Science. Then I moved to Canada in 2023. I worked at Tim Hortons part-time, did some Uber driving..."

By the time they finish, the interviewer knows their entire life story.
But they have NO idea why this person should be hired.

That's not an introduction.
That's a biography.

The hiring manager doesn't care where you grew up.
They don't care about your part-time survival job.

They care about ONE thing: Can you do this job?

The WWW framework

So what should you say instead?
I'm going to give you a simple framework.

The WWW Framework.

W #1: What do you do?

Your role. Your expertise. Your field.
Not "I studied marketing."
Say: "I'm a marketing professional with 5 years of experience in content strategy."
Simple. Clear. Relevant.

W #2: What results have you gotten?

Your track record. Your wins. Your proof.
Not "I'm good at social media."
Say: "I grew our Instagram following from 8,000 to 45,000 in under a year."
Numbers. Specifics. Results.
This is what makes you credible.

W #3: What's in it for them?

Why this company? Why this role?
Show that you've done your homework.
Not "I really love this company."
Say: "I'm drawn to [Company] because you're focused on audience growth, and that's exactly what I've been doing for the last 5 years."

Make it about THEM.
Not about your life story.

Next time, please go prepared and make a great first impression with this answer!

Talk to yourself out loud before the interview

You might feel a little stupid doing this.
Your roommate might think you’ve lost it.
You might even start whispering when someone walks by.

But do it anyway.

Because this tiny, awkward habit?
It can 10x your confidence—and make you way more hireable.

Ready for it?
👉 Start talking to yourself. Out loud. Every day.
Yes, actually speak. Like you're in an interview.

Here’s why it works:
When you speak out loud, you’re not just thinking.

You’re processing, organizing, and training your brain to access ideas faster.

And in a real interview, that’s what sets you apart —
Not robotic, rehearsed answers.
But confident, fluid storytelling.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Pick one question a day: Start with “Tell me about yourself” or “Why should we hire you?”
  2. Talk out loud: Forget perfection. Focus on just arranging your ideas one by one.
  3. Record yourself: Watch it back — you’ll notice what sounds powerful, and what feels off.

Do this for 10 minutes a day. That’s it.

In a week, you’ll sound sharper.
In two weeks, you’ll walk into interviews calmer.
And in a month, you won’t recognize your own confidence!

And yes — you’ll feel silly at first.
You might roll your eyes at yourself.

But if you do this consistently…

➡️ You’ll train your brain to think on the spot.
➡️ You’ll sound clearer, more confident.
➡️ You’ll stop freezing when someone asks, “Tell me about yourself.”

And most importantly?

You’ll walk into interviews with way more confidence.
That confidence will be obvious to recruiters.
And that is what gets you hired.

Start looking foolish today so that you can get hired tomorrow.

Shine a little brighter,
Bani
