Nani ghar, new dog and a powerful career lesson

Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.
— Will Rogers

Here’s a funny little story from my recent visit to my nani’s house.

They just got a new dog (the 3rd one!), and like all pets, he brought a lot of excitement to the home.

We tried to make him comfortable for the night by placing him in a large, ventilated basket so he wouldn’t roam around. But to our surprise, he managed to topple the basket and started running freely around the house.

We then thought adding weight would help, so we placed newspapers on top. But what did he do next? He pushed the basket around the house, undeterred! In the end, we gave up, let him out, and he happily slept in the room with us.

The lesson here?

Your will matters. When you are persistent, no matter how difficult the situation, you’ll find a way to make things happen.

Just like our dog (we’re yet to name him) was determined to break free, you can break through any obstacle standing in the way of you getting your dream job.

Now, if you’re facing challenges in your job search, here's how you can push further:

1. Tried tailoring your resume, but still got rejected?

You sent out a customized resume, but didn’t hear back?
Try this: Follow up with the hiring manager on LinkedIn or via email.

2. Tried following up, but still no response?

You connected with the recruiter, but still faced rejection?
Next step: Network with employees in the company. See if you can get an internal referral from someone who works there—referrals are often fast-tracked by recruiters.

3. Tried networking, but got no leads?

You’ve spoken to people and built connections, but no job offers came through? What to do now: Attend industry-specific events or webinars where hiring managers are likely to be. Ask insightful questions and engage—this will keep you on their radar.

This is why we teach our mentees multiple ways to land a job. But the best part is that we teach them how to get a job without even applying.

And that method works like a charm as over 80% of our mentees land a job without even applying!

Keep Blooming,
Bani Singh
