Here’s how our mentee negotiated $40,000 and broke our record

We cannot solve problems with the kind of thinking we employed when we came up with them.
— Albert Einstein

Imagine this: You’ve just received a job offer, and your heart races with excitement!

The salary is $70,000 — a decent starting point, but deep down, you know you’re worth more.

The Dilemma

You’ve heard about negotiation but you’re too scared:

➡️ “What if I lose my job offer?”
➡️ “What if they think I’m too greedy.”
➡️ “I should be happy that I’ve the job.”

These fears often paralyze many immigrants from negotiating, holding them back from their true potential.

But let me inspire you with the story of how our mentee broke our record and negotiated $40,000! (Our previous record was of $28,320).

The Story

Shrutika was offered a $70K job. But she knew her worth was more as the market rate was higher for her position.

So she pushed for $100K. After a few discussions, the HR agreed!

But that’s just $30K, Bani?

I know, here’s where the story gets even more interesting…

Since she had to move provinces, she even asked for a relocation bonus.

They agreed to offer $5K but she pushed for $10K. They agreed.

But that’s not it!

She even negotiated her role title to that of a Proposal Manager to strengthen her profile for future opportunities.

So, just by knowing how to negotiate, she got $40K more and a fancier title!

The Lesson

Here’s how she did it:

  1. Knowing Her Worth: She had knowledge of her market value and didn’t hesitate to ask for it.

  2. If thou ask, thou shalt receive: Close mouths don’t get fed.

  3. Confidence: She didn’t give in to her fear and asked for what she deserved confidently.

All our mentees embody this fearless approach. They know that it’s about more than just money; it’s about ensuring that their roles reflect their true value. With the right guidance and newfound confidence, they feel empowered to negotiate!

Keep Blooming,
