This one technique helped me get a govt. job

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
— Winston Churchill

This week’s practical tip is going to be very simple. So simple that you might think that it might not even work.

But don’t fall into that trap coz it is “Chhota Packet, Bada Dhamaaka!”

When I was working as a Project Leader and wanting to transition into Social Media Marketing, I would apply to jobs here and there. I did not have any routine. Somedays, I would apply to 15 jobs, other days 0. I wasn’t consistent. Sometimes, I wouldn’t apply for weeks!

Result: I wasn’t able to switch my job as I wasn’t treating it seriously.

Then, I changed just one thing and that led me to get a Govt. job as a Social Media Marketer.

Here’s what I did…

I made a Tracker!

It was a simple Google Sheet. I set a target of applying to atleast 10 jobs daily. At night, I used to look at my tracker and see the number of jobs that I have applied to. If it was <10, I didn’t use to sleep until I had filled 10 rows.

How to implement it in your life?

  • Create a Google Sheets doc

  • Put Column Headers as: Date, Company Name, Role, JD Link

  • Drag down today’s date to 10 rows and repeat this everyday

Why is this so powerful?

We often end up overestimating the number of jobs that we apply to. If it takes 1 hour, we think that we have done a lot of work and would have completed our daily target. But the reality is that we sometimes waste a lot of time in between and some applications take longer to fill.

So, this brings us back to reality. Also, having a visual cue that tells you “you still have work to do” motivates you to put in the effort to get that dopamine rush of completing all the 10 rows for the day! So, you stay consistent.
