Not getting any interview calls?

It’s unfortunate how we pay $$,$$$ for degrees/diplomas in Canada but still do not get the knowledge required to apply for jobs.

It breaks my heart to see immigrants with so much potential stuck in minimum-wage jobs just because they did not receive the proper guidance.

I believe that you deserve more and with the right mindset and guidance, you can get there. And I want each one of you to get your dream job, so I am sharing a resume framework that will start getting you interview calls.

But before we discuss that, I’ve seen 90% of people write resume bullet points that look like this:

Conducted code reviews and introduced new testing procedures to the software development process.

⬇️ What’s wrong?

It looks like it’s taken off a job description.

Everyone applying to the role would have done something like this, so you don’t stand out.

In addition, the bullet point shows no impact. It’s bland.

🖋️ This is when the CAR framework comes to our rescue!

⬇️ It stands for:

C: Context/ Challenge (implicit)

A: Action

R: Result

Let’s take the above example and do some CAR magic!

Challenge

So, you need to think of a challenge you worked on.

The code error rate was high.

Action

What did you do to resolve the challenge?

You did code reviews and implemented new testing procedures.

Result

What were the KPIs that you improved? What was the impact on the business?

You reduced the error rate by 47% and improved software performance and customer satisfaction.

Now, let’s put all this together to make a solid bullet point to help you stand out:

Improved software performance and customer satisfaction by reducing the error rate by 47% through code reviews and new testing procedures.

Voila, applying the CAR framework helped us turn a bland, weak sentence into a power-packed and impact-driven bullet point!

Applying the framework helps you go beyond generic job descriptions and showcases your specific contributions. It enables you to demonstrate your problem-solving skills, initiative, and tangible results. As a result, you start getting more interview calls!

Now, you can choose to be the person who opens their resume and implements this advice or the one who does mental masturbation and stays stuck in the same place just because you don’t want to push past your comfort zone.

I encourage you to be the former so that you can harness your full potential and live without any regrets!

Keep blooming,
Bani Singh
